We have been friends and neighbours for 20 years. And approximately two years ago we took the plunge and started our own company making liqueur. In a time when most artisan beverage companies make gin, beer or cider our choice of making liqueur may seem a bit out of the ordinary. However, for us it made perfect sense to launch The Fabulous Drinks Company with a range of handcrafted liqueurs because this tipple has been a constant note through out our friendship.

To better understand the role liqueur has played in our friendship we have to go back in time three generations of the Jardim family in Santa Cruz in Madeira where the original liqueur recipes originated - handed down from Grandfather, Father to Son. Ever since we have been neighbours and friends, any parties or BBQ at the Jardim house here in the UK have featured these family liqueurs. With the decision made to make our own – we flew Marcelino over from Madeira to help us get started. Since then we have added our own modern twist to these recipes to perfect them to be consumed on their own, or as a companion with other drinks or cocktails. It is important that our product looks as good as it tastes, and we are chuffed with the brilliant brand design created for us by Carrie Cummins of Studio@31.

 

The fruit and flavourings we use for our drinks are natural, and we have tried to keep the ethos of the old recipes of using locally grown and produced ingredients were possible. We work with local farmers for our fruit - therefore some of our flavours are seasonal. For our coffee, which is our best-selling liqueur we wanted something special, which is why we work with the lovely people over at the independent coffee company Workhouse Coffee in Reading. What they don’t know about coffee is not worth knowing. It is also our favourite supplier as we always get yummy coffee and learn fun facts about coffee when we visit. If you are in Reading, do pop into their coffee shop – it is an experience.

   

So far we have predominantly sold our products at local markets and fairs as we wanted to interact with our customers to get their feedback, and to understand what we are doing right and what we can improve. We are looking forward to the next step of our journey as we have just launched our online shop, and we will be working on bringing our products to shops, restaurants and bars.

So there you have it; a company born out of friendship, family, community and tradition. We are proud of our products and we are looking forward to many years of bringing Fabulous Drinks to fabulous people.
